Marty Holloway: Doing it his way
After three decades climbing the corporate ladder, 55-year-old Marty was ready for a change.
“I was starting to feel a bit claustrophobic. It was a very consuming role,” Marty says.
Married with five children and nine grandchildren – “and growing!” – Marty decided to pursue his true passion.
“I’d always been an outdoors person, no matter what the weather. I also enjoyed meeting and helping people, as well as gardening,” he says.
After speaking with a few different franchise organisations, he ended up choosing a V.I.P. Lawns & Gardens franchise because of how easy it was to get up and running.
“They made me feel comfortable and explained the initial process. They also asked a very important question about having family support before you make that decision, because it is a bit of a transition.”
But it was spending a day in the field with an existing franchisee that sealed the deal for Marty: “I don’t know if it was a setup or what, but there were kookaburras singing in the trees and we spotted a koala, and we were out doing all sorts of gardening, the weather was great. And I just thought this is fantastic, this is what I want to do.”
Now, Marty is fully booked with regular customers and enjoying the flexibility of being in charge of his own time and his own customers, in his own way.
His advice to others who are thinking of doing the same? “If you want to get happier and healthier, while managing your own time and being present with your family, give it a go!”
